Location & Venue
We’re getting married in historic Deadwood, South Dakota, which is about 45 minutes from Rapid City.
The closest airport is Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP). Most flights to Rapid City connect through either Denver or Minneapolis.
Wild West or Victorian attire for the wedding and reception is encouraged but not required—please come as you are.
Wedding
The wedding will be held Friday at 3:00pm in St. John’s Episcopal Church, which is the oldest church in the Black Hills.
The Rev. Michael Johnson (“Father Mike”) will be officiating.
St. John’s is located at 401 Williams Street in Deadwood.
Reception
A reception will follow the service, in the 1898 Ballroom on the third floor of the Martin & Mason Hotel. Catering by Anything’s Possible. Cake by Rustic Nook Bakery. Beats by DJ Hanzie Hanz.
Martin & Mason is directly across from the Adams Museum and the historic railroad depot, at 33 Deadwood Street. It’s four short blocks (about 0.2 miles) from St. John’s to Martin & Mason.
For the history buffs: Martin & Mason is named after Eben Martin, who was a lawyer and politician in South Dakota around the turn of the century. He was friends with Teddy Roosevelt; Roosevelt’s connections to South Dakota (pdf) are really interesting.
Rehearsal Dinner
On Thursday night at 6:00pm, everyone is invited to a rehearsal dinner at the Deadwood Social Club.
Deadwood Social Club is at 657 Main Street in Deadwood, above Saloon #10. (Saloon #10 is where “Wild Bill” Hickok was shot on August 1, 1876 by Jack McCall.)
Saturday Activities
We’re trying to arrange a party bus to some of the nearby attractions. Assuming we can get a bus company to actually call us back, it will be leaving at 10:00am on Saturday from somewhere near Martin & Mason.
